In memory of Ian Watters

By Naomi Watters

1 Year Anniversary approaching...

I'm sure you are all aware that not only has 2020 been the crappiest year, but that the Anniversary of Ian's death is fast approaching on the 20th October.

I am so very proud of and grateful to everyone who has gotten behind Evie and I and supported us through the darkest year of our lives.  The emotional support, physical support (helping me with housework and other things), not to mention the monetary support in Ian's name, helping others fight this God awful disease.

Not surprisingly, Ian has never left my thoughts.  Ever.  That won't change either.  I am not yet ready to start helping this cause in other ways, as I am still grieving.

But on the 20th, which is Tuesday, I ask you to join with me (wherever you are, and whatever you are doing) to stop for a moment, and hold him in your thoughts.  Have a drink for him if you like (his fave drink was Canadian Club and Coke), but the point is to just be still and remember him.  I'm sure that you would have done so plenty this year, but this day has significance.

I also ask you to please make donations a regular thing too.  It's such a small amount that makes a HUGE different to helping others fight this disease.  If you were diagnosed with it, or any other kind of cancer, trust me, this would be the best gift given.

Ian changed my life in many, many ways, and he will never be forgotten.  He will NEVER become a statistic.  His memory and legacy lives on through us, helping others in his name.

Thank you all.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far.  Every little bit counts.  I intend to make this a regular donation, and I would be very happy if you would consider doing the same thing.

Cancer is so much more prevalant today than you might realise.  We all need to do SOMEthing to WIPE this evil disease from existence.  It's taken way too many lives already, including the young.  It does not discriminate.  It takes anyone it can.  So we need to find out all we can about it, and remove it.  Find a cure.

To those still considering, or who haven't had a chance yet, I understand.  I still urge you to please donate, even if it's to another charity.  But this one means the most to me, and to Ian's extended family, so it would mean a great deal to all of us.

Thank you all.

Thank You.

Thank you to everyone who showed yesterday for my husband's memorial, and to all family and friends who helped organise and setup, and support all of us in this dark period of our lives. Thank you for the gifts of flowers, but if Ian were still here, he'd want the donation to the Cancer Council more. Please also try and make regular donations. Currently we stand at over $5,700 - that's wonderful! In the short term, I'd love to get to $10,000. Don't forget, each donation is tax deductible too.

I will (in time) be taking up his cause in the fight to help rid the world of this F&*!@ing disease. Anything you can do to aid us in this would be greatly appreciated.

Understandably, I have been staying away from social media and will be for the most part whilst I grieve the loss of my husband. We were always very private people, social media being no exception, but it has it's uses from time to time.

I know you all care and want to help. That has been on repeat for quite some time. I appreciate the gesture. If I ever need help, I will reach out.

In the meantime, take heed of his last request earthside; take care of yourself, don't ignore anything health-wise and brush it aside. Go and see someone. If you don't like their answer, GET A SECOND OPINION! Ian was dismissed by doctors and specialists for over a year but he kept going back for other opinions. He knew something wasn't right. It was only his persistence that led to the correct - devastating - diagnosis.

Thank you to my supporters

Dear Naomi, So sorry to hear of your loss. Too many people are dying of cancer when they still have so much to offer. It’s a tragedy. I would love to hear your thoughts on how the medical system can improve their handling of cancer cases.
